Altar’d State Showcases Scottish Stained Glass in New Store

As part of the Scottish Group family of companies we here at Colorado Springs Stained Glass were privileged enough to work with a national retail store, Altar’d State, on a monumental stained glass project. This was our second time working with them and the results were stunning. Working closely with this faith-based clothing retailer, we completed the project on time and with beautiful results that speak for themselves! Since Altr’d State opens new stores across the country each year, meeting deadlines was critical. The Scope of The Altr’d State Retail Stained Glass Project

Altr’d State needed 16 curved panels to come together for a 12-foot diameter circular ceiling feature. This was to be built and installed in their Norwalk, CT store. The challenge was staying true to the look of the last Altr’d State installation while working with the unique shape of the curved stained glass features. However, it certainly was not a challenge we could not handle.

The Execution of The Altr’d State Retail Stained Glass Project

With close attention to our previous designs for the company and the curved shape of the structure, we built custom wooden forms for each panel. This meant creating a positive and negative form so we could work on both sides of the installation. The most important part of the job was designing each piece so that it wouldn’t crack during manufacturing or installation. The tight two-week deadline required intense and accurate planning but was a challenge we planned for. Using our project management teams and tapping into a talent pool of eight skilled stained glass artisans, who worked day and night to get the job done on time! It all came together into a breath-taking 12-foot diameter circular stained glass ceiling feature pictured below.

Any project has its fair share of challenges like the Altr’d State project did. But, after a lot of planning and careful managing, this project came together beautifully. Every panel fit perfectly and the design was true to their brand aesthetic. Needless to say, the retail store and the owners were delighted. The quality of this stained glass installation is clearly evident and demands attention. Our takeaway from this project’s success is that we should continue to rely on our roots of excellence and what we call the–Scottish difference.

Martin Faith is a highly skilled stained glass artisan from Glasgow, Scotland. He has been studying the history, evolution, and techniques behind stained glass creation for over 35 years. Since 1991, he has been running his own stained glass studio based out of Colorado. Martin feels a personal connection to stained glass because of his Scottish heritage and has dedicated his life's work to its preservation and continuity. Using the same techniques which have been passed down for generations, Martin uses his expertise to create custom stained glass windows for Colorado Springs homes, businesses, and churches. He and his team have performed countless restorations for aging and antique stained glass and have produced over 50,000 original works to date.
